May is Miami Museum Month, a perfect time to discover what museums in the Magic City have to offer. From historic villas to modern art, these places are worth a visit during your stay in Miami.

The PAMM is a popular museum not only for its contemporary art collection, but also for its design, and family-friendly site. Explore the multi-levels of contemporary works by Latin American artists, gaze at the hanging gardens, and hang out on the museum steps for lunch and views of the stunning Biscayne Bay. You can even picnic on the lawns of Museum Park if the weather allows.

Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science

A few steps away from the latter, right along Museum Park, Frost boasts plenty to keep kids and adults busy for the day. The massive structure houses a planetarium, an aquarium, and a stream of exhibitions that educate on both Florida’s ecosystem and outer space.

Bass Museum of Art

Founded in 1964, the Bass Museum housed in a historic art deco building in Miami Beach underwent a $12 million interior renovation, reopening again late 2017. Visitors can explore its new and improved modern site, as well as browse the contemporary art collection and sculpture garden.

Lowe Art Museum

Head to the suburbs of the quaint Coral Gables neighborhood for a visit to the Lowe. The art museum run by University of Miami features a collection of Asian and Native American art, as well as pop art and even glass art.

The ICA in the Miami Design District recently unveiled its new location just a few blocks from its former space. Clean, minimalist lines and high ceilings make up the 37,500 square foot building designed by Spanish architectural firm Aranguren + Gallegos. Apart from its contemporary art collection and sculptural garden, the Zen space also features weekly lectures by talented professionals in their field.

From up-and-coming artists to legendary icons, the Rubell carries a fantastic collection of contemporary art works to suit every taste. Housed in a former DEA warehouse, the private museum boasts a collection by Donald and Mera Rubell, and their children. The property also boasts a 40,000 volume library for guests to browse.

An entire garden made of limestone, this stunning structure was made entirely by one man, Edward Leedskalnin, as an ode to his beloved ex-girlfriend. Nestled in Homestead, it’s only about a 40-minute drive from Miami’s Downtown, and worth a visit for its mysterious sundial, and other captivating pieces aligned to the stars.
