7 Perfect Farmstays in Romania
Some of Romania’s big draws are its beautiful and wild nature and delicious, hearty food. What better way to experience both than visiting its welcoming countryside? Here are some of the most charming farms in the Romanian countryside you can book a stay at, which combine great food, amazing scenery, and are located near plenty of cultural and natural attractions.
Cobor Biodiversity Farm
Run by a couple passionate about organic farming, Cobor Biodiversity Farm has the best of both worlds: here you can have both an immersion in farm life and an introduction to wildlife. Starting in the spring, you can train your green fingers by taking part in diverse farm activities. Moreover, as it is nestled between rolling hills and surrounded by secular oak forests in the very heart of Transylvania, the farm can be a nature lover’s gateway to Romania’s rich nature and wildlife. Here guests can do birdwatching, take part in wilderness camps, go horse riding, or go on a tour by cart pulled by horses. Alternatively, you can join photo camps or take day trips by bike to the nearby village of Viscri to admire one of Transylvania’s most beautiful fortified churches.

Ferma de sub Penteleu
Ferma Dacilor
Located nearby the rolling hills covered in vineyards of the Tohani, Budureasca and Lacerta wineries, Ferma Dacilor offers an experience centred around delicious, hearty food and great wines in a tranquil setting. Despite being a very child-friendly place, with deer, rabbits and ducklings looking forward to being fed by the little ones, this is the place where merry times can extend till late. Accommodation options at the farm could not be more original, after the owners built small, round, stone houses with straw roofs and tree houses. Depending on the season, however, those who get up early and are passionate about wild fruit and mushrooms can explore the hills and come back with foraged goodies.
Floare de Măceș
Set at the bottom of the picturesque Bucegi Mountains, Floare de Măceș is that place where you can take in the beautiful scenery and enjoy life at a pace so relaxed that it will take you back in time. Run for decades by the same family, the farm recently opened to those curious to discover a way of life that has been passed down for generations. Here you can take part in the daily activities involving the farm’s animals and vegetable garden, as well as sample their delicious organic cheese, one of the specialities that made them famous in the region. Apart from bike tours, cart driving courses and horse riding courses, you can visit plenty of attractions near Brașov, including the Bran Castle.
Ferma Ciocăneşti
Ciocăneşti Farm, located in Călărași County, eastern Romania, welcomes those who love birdwatching and fish all day for their food. Apart from rearing chicken, turkeys, sheep, and pigs, the farm’s owners have taken a great deal of care to preserve the habitat used by over 200 species of birds. Here you can fish, go bike riding in the area, or sunbathe. Accommodation is offered in the warm months, but keep in mind that the rooms still come in short supply, so make sure to book your stay in good time. The food is local and organic, with ingredients coming mainly from the farm.
Ferma Scărișoara
Mountain lovers will enjoy a stay at Ferma Scărișoara, which is located at 1,100 meters altitude, surrounded by fir and pine forests. The farm and adjoining guesthouse were set up by a local family who wanted to enable nature lovers to visit the surroundings at a time when accommodation was scarce in the area. The location is ideal for those who want to visit the main attraction, the Scărișoara Cave, home to the biggest underground glacier in Romania.
Hora cu Brazi
Located in an idyllic setting at the foot of the Piatra Craiului mountains, Hora cu Brazi is the perfect spot to use as your base when exploring the surroundings. Perfect for hiking, the mountains are crossed by trekking paths that will take you to the highest peaks, offering plenty of opportunities to take in the beautiful scenery and spot Romania’s wildlife. Also nearby is the departure point for the best mountain bike trails in the Piatra Craiului mountains!
