7 Places to Drink CBD Cocktails in LA
With the rise in deregulation of cannabis in many states, early adopters are embracing California’s unstigmatized CBD oil—short for Cannabidiol—and opting to use it in everything from chocolates to lattes.
CBD, a non-psychoactive property of cannabis, is legal in most places. Unlike THC in marijuana, CBD exists purely for medical and holistic treatment—it’s often used to treat neurological diseases or treat muscle pains. Recreationally, its value is a passive, calming effect.
The trend is fairly new and comes with a lot of exciting products—everything from gummy bears to anti-aging face cream. One of the most exciting prospects surrounding CBD is its use in cocktails. Here are seven bars and restaurants in Los Angeles that are including this leafy trend in their cocktail menus.
Spring
Restaurant, French
When you think about CBD oils, you might not conjure up images of beef tartare served to you in an upscale historic building, but that’s just what Downtown LA’s Spring has to offer. The restaurant, situated in the beautifully-refurbished Douglas Building built in the late 19th century, is part-classic French restaurant and part-contemporary tastings; a menu inspired by the South of France, and cocktails are a mix of Old World and modern times.
Gracias Madre
Bar, Restaurant, Mexican, Vegan
Employees Only
Bar, Cocktail Bar, Restaurant, American
In New York, Employees Only is often considered one of the best bars in the city. Their new outfit, located in West Hollywood, seems to be destined for the same acclaim. The bar’s opening menu is a mix of locally-sourced ingredients inspired by California. Although they’re known for their jaw-dropping cocktails, their food menu is nothing to ignore. Featuring scrumptious menu items (some with a boozy bent) such as pork shoulder chop with madeira sauce and roasted mushroom chicken with a sherry vinegar jus, Employees Only has got something for everyone.
Pattern Bar
Bar, Restaurant, American
The Fashion District’s intimate enclave, known for their fun DJ sets, was one of the first Downtown bars to put CBD cocktails on the map. Their menu features an eclectic mix of drinks named after famed designers; the Chanel and the Lagerfeld are just two of the options among the fashion-forward mixology menu. The bar and organic restaurant goes one step further by allowing you to add CBD to any cocktail on their list. Who doesn’t want a Coco Chanel-themed drink with a CBD twist?
Broken Shaker
Bar, Hotel Restaurant, American
Tiki-style drinks on a roof atop one of the most exciting new hotels in Los Angeles is enough to lure any cocktail-lover to Broken Shaker at the Freehand Hotel. But Broken Shaker wouldn’t be known as one of the most popular cocktail bars shaking up the LA scene without making it a bit more contemporary by adding CBD to the mix. Take a dip in the pool and enjoy the view with one of their signature tropical CBD drinks.
Lord Jones at The Standard, Hollywood
Bar, Hotel Restaurant, American
While The Standard doesn’t exactly have CBD cocktails on the menu (yet), they have something even better: Lord Jones, an LA-based cannabis company working directly with the hotel to provide patrons with an array of products including CBD oil. Now you can enjoy a Gin Martini and some french fries poolside with your choice of perfectly-packaged CBD products.
Dark Horse Tavern
Bar, Restaurant, American
If a CBD shot can relax you, what better place to drink it in a cocktail than a bar that features karaoke? As if delicious pub fare and barrel-aged bourbon weren’t enough for us to visit this Valley bar, Dark Horse Tavern in Tarzana features a special CBD menu listing drinks with names like Chong’s Revenge (made with Earth Mama Hemp Vodka) and Willie Nelson (featuring whiskey, of course).
