Spend a Night in Finland's Youngest Lighthouse

Listening to the rolling waves at Kylmäpihlaja Lighthouse Hotel guarantees a peaceful night’s sleep. Opened in 1953, the 36-metre lighthouse is one of Finland’s youngest. The Lighthouse Hotel has double rooms with a homey atmosphere and shared bathrooms. There are also two saunas, a Jacuzzi in a wooden barrel, a restaurant and seaside café.
Impressive Stay at Bengtskär

The austere and imposing Bengtskär Lighthouse arises from a rocky, granite island. The sight is impressive, and no wonder: Bengtskär Lighthouse is the Nordic countries’ tallest lighthouse at 46 metres. Six lighthouse keepers’ rooms have been refurbished as hotel rooms maintaining the original spirit of the place. The price, which varies from 70 € to 120 €, includes a sauna and breakfast. The lighthouse is closed during winter months.

Tankar Island with its lighthouse is a perfect stay for romantic souls. The island is under one kilometre long, and located about fifteen kilometres from the harbour of Kokkola. The lighthouse was opened in 1889 and it is surrounded by little red fishermen’s cottages, nowadays summer homes. There are several options for accommodation, including the lighthouse master’s refurbished house and the pilot station, Hostel Tankar Inn.
Enjoy a Stay at Isokari Lighthouse

Opened in 1833 and still operating, Isokari Lighthouse offers memorable hotel stays in the lighthouse master’s house or in a cottage just next to the lighthouse. There is also a restaurant (pre-booking only) on the island. The hotel’s Nordic and cosy feel offer a perfect nook for hygge after exploring the island’s flora and fauna.
Picture-perfect Stay at Sälgrund Lighthouse

The picture-perfect red and white Sälgrund Lighthouse is located under kilometre’s journey from the cute fishing harbour of Kaskinen. The lighthouse was opened in 1875 and the pilot station functions as accommodations with a magnificent view to the sea. Kaskinen is famous for its summertime chamber music festival which also hosts a special lighthouse concert at Sälgrund.
Hailuoto Lighthouse Hotel in Oulu, Finland

Opened in 1871, Hailuoto Lighthouse is located on an island about fifty kilometres from the city of Oulu. The calm island has just under 1,000 inhabitants. The accommodation in the lighthouse pilot station has memorable views of the Bothnian Bay. The bright white, 25-metre lighthouse also offers plenty of photo opportunities.
A Day-Trip to Utö Lighthouse

Although a night in the lighthouse is not possible, a day trip to cute Utö island is worthwhile. Utö is Finland’s southernmost island is inhabited around the year, and is famous for its picturesque, red wooden houses, charming village life, its history, and of course, the red and white, angular lighthouse. You can enter the lighthouse with a guided tour and spend a night in an island hotel, a cottage or the old post office nearby.
