Asheville has been named a “Best Small City” by National Geographic, which is pretty great praise coming from a media outlet known for its stunning photography and videography. So, it’s no surprise that Asheville has a practically endless list of places that are Instagram-worthy. We’ve narrowed this list down to eight Instagrammable vistas to help keep you focused on your mission of capturing the Blue Ridge Mountains and their surrounding forests in all their splendor.

The Montford

Several downtown restaurants and bars vie for the title of best views, and The Montford is certainly one of the hottest places to be during an Asheville sunset. In fact, the small space usually reaches capacity before the flashes of color intensify across the sky each evening, so be sure to come early to capture the best sunset moments.

Sunset Terrace

Speaking of sunset, one of the most amazing places to watch it is at the historic Grove Park Inn. Here, a multi-tiered stone terrace stretches toward the Blue Ridge Mountains. The edges of the U-shaped luxe lodge frame the mountains like a postcard, and the quality beer, wine and cocktail options will look great in your photos, too.

SkyBAR

Skybar makes no bones about it – they believe they have the best mountain views in town, and many agree. Of course, everyone has their favorite Asheville vistas, but the Skybar certainly deserves a stop along any photo scavenger hunt in the Land of the Sky.

Mount Mitchell

It’s tough to beat the vistas that exist on the highest peak this side of the Mississippi, which makes Mount Mitchell the place to go for panoramic photos, awesome hikes and long views for miles on clear days.

Max Patch

This 360-degree bald intersects with hikers tackling the famous Appalachian Trail, the earth’s longest hiking-only footpath. Thru-hikers love timing out their hiking itinerary to include at least a night at Max Patch thanks to its amazing vistas.

Craggy Gardens

Craggy Gardens is certainly a cool area any time of the year, but in June, the entire landscape becomes lit with shades of pink when the waxy green rhododendrons come to life. The steep climb only travels 20 miles from downtown Asheville, but civilization feels far away up here.

Biltmore Estate

Landscape photos with the Biltmore Estate in the background will surely catch attention as this home’s sheer massive size makes people stop and look twice. As America’s largest private home, this attraction brings through millions of visitors each year that take tons of selfies, rooftop shots and long-range images that capture the Blue Ridge Mountains behind the house.

River Arts District

One urban vista not to miss is the walls of graffiti art in the River Arts District. The Foundation has a handful of buildings covered from top to bottom, while the railroad tracks and water silo with the phrase “Good Vibes” painted carefully on its exterior makes for another dramatic vista that has become a location for pop-up weddings and elopements.
