Always wanted to live in a fairytale castle, but thought you couldn’t afford it? Well, now you might be able to. A medieval Swiss chateau is going to auction with no reserve and you could become the next owner, finding yourself the master of a stunning estate with centuries of history.

The chateau is a one-of-a-kind place

On June 28, Concierge Auctions will sell the magnificent Château de Bavois, a fully renovated 14th-century estate located in the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, a little to the north of beautiful Lake Geneva. This French-speaking region of Switzerland offers a thriving cultural scene and is surrounded by lush nature. The chateau was once the home of Count Peter II of Savoy, the nobleman behind London’s historic Savoy Palace. Many unique period furnishings and features can still be seen throughout the castle, including a secret underground tunnel. The estate was originally listed at 18 million Swiss francs, but at the end of the month, it will be auctioned without reserve to the highest bidder, which means that there will be no minimum amount to start bidding on the chateau.

Charlie Smith, European advisor for Concierge Auctions, comments, ‘Following on from the successful auction of Chateau de Promenthoux in September, a property which achieved a record-breaking sale price, we are delighted to again be operating in Switzerland and to be representing the beautiful and significant Chateau de Bavois. The buyer will benefit not only from the historically significant chateau, but also from the additional benefit of the adjacent farmhouse, offering the ideal space for events or foundation use.’

There’s room for everything and everyone

Perched on a hilltop in the Plain de L’Orbe, the Château de Bavois has everything you might expect from a medieval estate: a Knight’s banqueting hall that looks straight out of a fairytale, a double vaulted wine cellar that is a wine lover‘s dream and picture-perfect towers. The main residence has 800 square metres of living space, including two apartments, reception rooms, guest rooms and a grand period kitchen – the last is a fantastic space that any foodie will appreciate. And that’s not all. A secret tunnel, just like those you see in the movies, leads to the neighbouring farmhouse complex, which features another 1,265 square metres of living space, including six apartments, a dining room and a number of reception areas. All in all, Château de Bavois can accommodate and entertain up to 200 guests, making it perfect for large parties and gatherings of all sorts.

There’s also plenty of outdoor space at the chateau

The interior of the castle is quite incredible, with period furnishings and beautiful details, but the outdoor area is also something to write home about. The chateau grounds are a dream come true, with more than nine acres of greenery that are home to an outdoor swimming pool, a barn and stables, additional outbuildings and underground parking for six cars.

The estate is easy to reach

The city of Lausanne is just 20 minutes by road from the estate and Geneva Airport is only an hour away, which makes Château de Bavois ideal for short breaks and holidays. Fans of mountain sports – whether summer or winter activities – will be pleased to know that internationally renowned Swiss Alps resorts can be reached within two hours. Whether you want to go hiking, cycling or skiing, outdoor activities are never too far away.
