Galle – Secrets of Sri Lanka by Train
The southwestern corner of Sri Lanka is guarded proudly by the striking fort city of Galle. The fort itself – forming an almost perfect pentagon jutting out into the coast – is surrounded by golden sands and crystal clear waters, while inside lies a truly splendid collection of colonial-era architecture, coming from periods of Portuguese, Dutch and British rule. Our 10-day Rail Trip in Sri Lanka ends up in Galle, where you’ll get to stay at a hotel within the Unesco-listed fort city itself. We’ll leave you to mostly explore the place at your own pace, but we recommend a stroll along the city walls and a visit to the old lighthouse, as well as plenty of time kept for mooching around cute cafes and artisan shops. You can also escape the fort to explore some of the region’s stunning tropical beaches, which rank among the finest in all of South Asia.

Malaga - City Hopping in Spain by Train
Spain and coastal cities go together like patatas and bravas. There’s something in the sea air when it comes to the balmy Mediterranean streets of a Spanish city, be it the seafood culture and lively nightlife or the ancient architecture and laid-back approach to life. All of the above is present in Malaga, southern Spain’s most significant seaside city. It’s one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe, and to this day you can see remnants of Phoenician and Roman rule, as well Moorish-era architecture and late twentieth-century masterpieces in the gothic and baroque styles. Our eight-day Rail Trip through the heart of Spain ends up in Malaga, where you’ll be treated to a locally guided walking tour and dinner at a local restaurant. You’ll also have plenty of time to explore the city at your own pace, be it a visit to the Picasso Museum (or one of the many great galleries), a walk up to the Alcazaba fortress or some chill time on the beautiful beaches of the Costa del Sol.

Split & Dubrovnik – Coastal Croatia
It’s so hard to choose between these two Croatian gems that we decided to just give props to both of them. Both Split and Dubrovnik are extremely historical cities, both found on Croatia’s glorious Dalmatian Coast. They also form the start and end points of our eight-day tour of this stunning seaside region, which includes island-hopping adventures, wine tastings and oyster slurpings. We start in Split, famous for its scenic promenade and Unesco-listed Palace of Diocletian. You’ll get a guided tour of the city and a stargazing experience at the city’s Starry Village observatory. Our endpoint, meanwhile, has become one of the most easily recognisable cities on the planet, largely thanks to Game of Thrones, for which Dubrovnik sat in for the fantastical city of King’s Landing. The fort city’s impressively preserved walls and striking red-tiled rooftops make it endlessly easy on the eye, while the narrow alleyways and ancient architecture of its old town is as magical as Game of Thrones itself. You’ll get a guided tour of the city and a farewell dinner at one of the best local restaurants in town – the perfect way to end your Croatian adventure.

We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day.
