7 Best Breakfast and Brunch Spots in Sayulita, Mexico
Visitors to Sayulita will find that, for a town of its size, there are dozens of high-quality options for eating out. Given that the area doesn’t have all-inclusive resorts as neighboring beaches do, those staying in Sayulita will most likely need to leave the hotel for meals and, as a result, will get to try many different restaurants during their trip. These are our recommendations for the seven best breakfast and brunch spots in Sayulita.
ChocoBanana
Cafe, Mexican
At first glance, it seems impossible to decide what to order from ChocoBanana’s extensive menu. Luckily, its location right across the main plaza (with its colorful paper cutout decorations) makes it easy to have breakfast here more than once. Those who want a hearty traditional breakfast should order the huevos rancheros or an Olde English, but there are lighter options like oatmeal and fresh-fruit smoothies as well. To end on a sweet note, the house special is the way to go: a frozen banana dipped in chocolate and topped with sprinkles, coconut, or granola.
North Side Café
Cafe, Mexican
This café on the north side of town is worth the short trek for a memorable breakfast or brunch. Using organic local produce, the chef at this Mexican/American spot (the owner is from Chicago) makes most things in house. Their golden latte has received rave reviews and is made from a mix of spices that includes turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger. The banana pancakes are among the crowd’s favorites, as are the breakfast burritos. There are also great value mimosas, ideal to complete the experience.
Atico Breakfast Café & Bar
Cafe, Mexican
This lively street corner spot has a vibe of its own, while simultaneously fitting right in with the whole Sayulita atmosphere. The swings at the bar are the most coveted seats in the house and add a lot of character to an already unique place, with walls and pillars covered in art and trinkets. Their poached eggs are the best in town and the café also serves healthy versions of breakfast staples like wholemeal pancakes and green tea lattes.
Blue Corn Mama Café
Cafe, Mexican
The vibrant hot-pink building that houses Blue Corn Mama Café is part of the Huichol Center, founded by anthropologist Susana Valadez. The café and adjacent gallery are both non-profit ventures that aim to empower the Huichol community so that indigenous people can coexist with the modern world while preserving their traditions. Besides supporting a worthy cause, patrons will be glad they visited this spot, on account of the scrumptious blueberry pancakes, waffles topped with banana, volcano shaped sopes, and large stuffed quesadillas—all made from home-grown blue corn!
Yeikame
Cafe, Mexican
Those in the mood for chilaquiles would be wise to pay Yeikame a visit. The family-run restaurant sports bright-green walls with murals featuring Huichol elements and a menu made up of mostly Mexican dishes. Besides their tasty chilaquiles, their blue-corn quesadillas and huevos rancheros make an excellent start to the day. It’s worth noting that they have quite a few vegetarian and vegan options, including the vegetarian Mexican plate and the tacos with poblano strips and corn.
Orangy
Juice Bar, Healthy
It’s easy to overindulge while traveling and sometimes all you crave is a healthy start to the day. We’re not suggesting jumping fully onto the detox train while on holiday, but this place is perfect for those craving a lighter breakfast. While it might look like just a juice shop, Orangy also serves what they call “liquid breakfasts” (juice blends with yoghurt) and amazing smoothies. They also have breakfast bowls, which can include healthy toppings like chia, flax, or granola and seasonal fruit.
Yah-Yah
Cafe, Mexican
This small café recently moved from its centrally located spot near the main square to a newer, more contemporary location. It serves everything from pastries (called pan dulce locally), bagels, and healthy smoothie bowls to hearty omelettes and waffles topped with strawberries and chocolate sauce. Their coffee menu is extensive and gets great reviews from repeat customers. They also have vegetarian options and gluten-free cookies.
