Enter the Distorted World of Morocco's Upside Down House

Dar El Sadaka, an otherwordly guest house designed by Jean-François Fourtou, is located only 15 minutes from the centre of Marrakesh. Although it is not open to the public, the main villa can be rented for holidays or private events. Along with this villa, Fourtou also added other whimsical constructions to the property, including The Giant’s House and the upside down house. Read on to know more about this awesome space.

The Giant’s House is twice the size of a normal human-sized house, which means you will certainly feel like a child again. The upside down structure, named The House Fallen from the Sky because Fourtou believes it’s as if his grandfather sent it to him from the sky, is actually identical to the home of his grandparents.

At Dar El Sadaka, each room is associated with an animal sculpture created by Fourtou: the giraffe dining room, the orangutan living room, the tortoise suite, the camel suite, and so on. Entering the property, the first thing you will notice is a giant sheep placed by an incredible pool. As you walk further into the lush gardens, you will come across the monumental artwork that is The House Fallen From The Sky. It is a fascinating sight and stepping inside is an even more spectacular experience – you will truly find yourself in a parallel world.

Fourtou has also created The Giant’s House on three different scales. There’s a smaller house that is the size of a child, and another one that is roughly larger than a doll’s house.

Do note that this property is not an art gallery or an artsy hotel, but a privately owned space. However, they do welcome non-residents into their spectacular gardens for their signature Lunch at The Giant’s House or for a tour of the property on a sidecar.
