Whether you’re watching it disappear behind the ocean’s endless horizon, or seeing an entire valley glow as it hides behind a giant mountain, watching the sun go down is one of the most inherently spiritual acts on Earth. Join one of these Culture Trip adventures to experience the most beautiful sunsets in the world.

The Great Wall of China at sunset

Great Wall of China – Icons of China by Train

Seeing one of the world’s most famous man-made wonders is one thing, but seeing it during golden hour is another experience altogether. That’s why our Icons of China trip takes you hiking along a stretch of the Wall in the evening, ending at an amazing vantage point to watch the sun disappear behind the region’s rolling green hills. The vastness of the Wall, disappearing behind the hills along with the sun, looks even more atmospheric at this time of day. Still stunned by an experience you’ll never forget, we’ll head back to our hotel for a rooftop barbecue overlooking the region, now drenched in darkness. We’ll also reconvene with the sun on the following morning during an optional sunrise hike back on the Wall!

Sunset in Santorini, Greece

Santorini sunset – Greek Island Odyssey

Island life lends itself pretty well to sunsets, so Greece is undoubtedly one of the best countries you can visit for dreamy sundown spots. Whichever island you choose you won’t be disappointed, but the unrivalled king of Greek sunsets is Santorini. There’s something about those white-washed buildings and blue-domed churches, looking out over the Mediterranean’s calmly swaying waters, that just makes for magic under the warm glow of golden hour. Those white walls become a canvas for the sun to paint in its colour of choosing, so no Santorini sunset is quite the same. It’s best enjoyed with a refreshing cocktail in hand, following a delicious Greek dinner, which is exactly how we’ll end the last night of our Greek Island Odyssey.

Pha Bong viewpoint – Tropical Northern Thailand

The jungles, rice paddies and epic valleys of Northern Thailand mean that you can find all sorts of unique sunset spots, each with their own pretty little picture to paint. Our Tropical Northern Thailand chooses the Pha Bong viewpoint, found in the hills of Mae Hong Son. The viewpoint gives you an almost perfectly aligned view down the centre of a valley, with every patch of land the eye can see covered in luscious greenery. You’ll watch the valley turn to crimson red on night seven of our trip – a well-earned treat at the end of a day spent hiking around the region’s jungles. The itinerary also features a spectacular sunrise hike two days later as we summit Doi Inthanon.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
