First operating out of her tiny apartment in London, Jaslyn Rangson brought home to Kuala Lumpur her rustic baked goods which have captured the hearts of many Malaysians. Her shop is stocked with delicious cakes and the occasional loaf made from organic flour and kampung (free-range) eggs. You’ll find a rotation of baked goods on display, including innovative options such as mango shortcake, honey whole wheat cake and banana yoghurt loaf.
Bringing the best and largest selection of European-style bread to the sleepy neighbourhood of Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Der Backmeister takes baking very seriously, following traditional recipes using only natural ingredients. No premixes, preservatives, or other additives are used when baking. Head over here early in the morning as the shelves of bread clear out fast. With a relaxed setting and neoclassical decor, Levain is where locals come to get away from the bustle of the big city. Bunn Choon

Before moving to its current location off the main streets of Petaling Street, this small bakery was operating at the now-closed Imbi morning market.
