The Best Boutique Hotels in Napa Valley
Napa Valley is almost as spoiled for boutique hotels as it is for wineries, with great resorts, lodges and hacienda-style establishments dotted throughout its verdant Californian slopes. In Napa itself you’ve a chic hotel with a rooftop bar right in downtown and a Tuscan villa-style resort on its own vineyard, while further up the valley there are great places to stay in smaller towns. Here’s our guide to hotels in Yountville, Rutherford, Calistoga and beyond.
Archer Hotel Napa
Boutique Hotel
Archer Hotel Napa is right on First Street in the centre of town, surrounded by the lively shopping, dining and wine tasting establishments of downtown. Many of the guest rooms and suites at this boutique hotel in Napa have private balconies and you can drink and dine on the rooftop terrace at the Sky & Vine Rooftop Terrace bar, amid potted olive trees, topiary sculptures and stone fire pits. Charlie Palmer Steak and Sky is the hotel’s other dining venue, serving artisanal American beef alongside excellent seafood, chops, chicken and vegetarian options.
Rancho Caymus Inn
Budget Hotel, Inn
In the hamlet of Rutherford about 20 minutes north of downtown Napa by car, Rancho Caymus Inn was opened by vintner Mary Tilden Morton in 1984. It was built using materials procured from a dismantled 19th-century Yorkshire Ohio barn, featuring exposed wooden beams and walnut countertops. The 26 rooms have a Spanish hacienda-style feel, with textured walls, wrought iron features and artisanal knick-knacks. You can walk to Rutherford Grill and BV Vineyards’ tasting room, or drive in minutes to dozens of other wineries and restaurants.
Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa
Motel, Inn, Spa Hotel
Calistoga Motor Lodge is inspired by the great American road trip. The Camper Rooms offer a retro interpretation of life on the road, while the New Vista rooms are spacious, some with balconies boasting mountain views. You can unwind with a dip in the three geothermal mineral pools then head over to the Moonacre Spa & Baths for a mud bath at the mud bar or try one of their special treatments – the grape seed body scrub and hemp-derived CBD massage are recommended.
Senza Hotel
Hotel, Winery with Rooms
This understated hotel is one of the best places to stay in Napa. It’s set amid two acres (0.8ha) of the Napa Valley, with luxurious rooms and suites featuring top-end bedding, organic bath products and ample patios with garden and vineyard views. You can relax with a spa treatment then emerge renewed in time for a nightly wine and cheese hour and cap the day off with one last glass around the fire pit.

KEEN TO EXPLORE THE WORLD?
Connect with like-minded people on our premium trips curated by local insiders and with care for the world
Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.
Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.
We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
