The 10 Best Brunch and Breakfast Spots in Monaco
Food is a big part of visiting any new place and the mornings in Monaco are not to be missed. Monaco might be the second smallest country in the world but you’ll definitely need to tackle its dazzling way of life. Here is our guide to where to go to fuel up for the day, from simple morning coffees to petit déjeuner feasting.
Saphir 24
Restaurant, European
The views are the biggest pull to this venue with its uninterrupted, blue ocean as far as the eyes can see. Saphir 24 is the cocktail lounge and bar at the Fairmont Monte Carlo Hotel. Breakfast comes in one option – a simple continental feast – and, it goes without saying, make sure to sit with it outside.
Gran Caffè
Cafe, French, Mediterranean
A lovely local café next to Monaco’s train station, which is perfect if you are visiting the principality by rail. Serving up a whole host of breakfast options from coffee, teas and freshly pressed juices, to seasonal fruits, milkshakes, omelette, brioche, pastries (of course), cake of the day and more.
Emilie's
Cafe, French
Think less liquid lunch and more liquid brunch when you stop off at Emilie’s Cookies. What a delightful place it is with more hot chocolate combinations than you can imagine and delicious smoothies. If you have room to actually eat something, there’s an enticing selection of bagels.
Valentin
Bakery, French
Part of an arcade, Valentin is a perfect brunch stop for when you need to get out the sun and feast on a selection of pastries – and boy is there a selection. This snug and intimate Italian delicatessen and restaurant is just the spot for a sweet-fuelled start to the day. We would definitely pop back here for elevenses, and maybe an afternoon snack, too! It feels fairly off the tourist track and most of the time you’ll be amongst locals chatting with the amiable owners.
EQVITA
Cafe, Restaurant, Fusion, Vegan
If you’re looking for a plant-based place to eat, then be sure to head to EQVITA. From avocado on toast to chia porridge, there are plenty of options if you’re after something green and nutritious (and raw, we should point out!) after a couple of days of excess. Try their energy balls, too, they’re delightful.
Le Baobab
Cafe, European
If you head towards Larvotto beach, you’ll come to Le Baobab. This simple beach-side bar and its promenade setting is just the calm you want at the start of your day; and being slightly away from the main Monaco thoroughfare, this venue retains its calm a little longer than others. It also means the food is a lot more affordable. Expect the breakfast classics here.
Café de Paris
Restaurant, European
The ultimate place to brunch in Monaco. Brunching is so much more than food when you’re visiting a place like this and Café de Paris is one of the hottest spots in town. You pay for the location – right by the famous Monte-Carlo Casino – but this is expected in Monaco, after all. There is nowhere else better for people-watching and starting off your day than right in the middle of the hustle and bustle.
L'Intempo
Restaurant, European
One of the most gorgeous terraces in Monaco, L’Intempo is exactly the dreamy venue you expect when you think of this dazzling city. It is the restaurant of Le Méridien Beach Plaza Hotel, and it doesn’t disappoint: the terrace and water look almost to be at the same level. From 12pm to 3pm each Sunday, there is the delicious brunch menu on offer.
Chez Edgar
Cafe, Restaurant, French, European
Stop by Chez Edgar from 8am for breakfast (and stay the rest of the day, if you like). Located just off Monaco’s Hercule Port, the welcome here is what makes Chez Edgar such an attractive place to start your day, as well as the slightly less Monaco-like prices. Afterwards, head around the harbour to Fort Antoine, an 18th-century fort that hosts theater performances during the summer months.
Breakfast on the go
Remember, you’re in France, so if you don’t have enough time for a sit-down start to the day, you can also get a croissant to go. There are numerous boulangeries and patisseries in Monaco and so wherever you’re staying, you should come across one on foot. Why not try a ‘fougasse monegasque’, a local pastry speciality topped with almonds and nuts?
