The trendy King St crowd really knows its coffee, and Perth’s inner-city coffee-lovers flock to La Veen. Occupying a heritage-listed building with red brick walls and floor-to-ceiling windows, this industrial-chic café brews top-notch Five Senses coffee and plates up an innovative brunch menu — the potato rosti with poached eggs, avocado creme, beetroot remoulade plus a truffle and beetroot reduction is the signature dish.

The team behind Mo Espresso on St Georges Terrace opened this location in the contemporary 140 William St precinct to offer diners a broader food menu, including a long list of great value-for-money toasted cheese, sandwiches and bagels. The family-run Max + Sons also takes its coffee seriously — expect specialty beans from roasters like Mecca, Proud Mary and Loaded.

This mega-popular Mill St eatery is an oasis for healthy eaters in the heart of Perth, feeding ‘superfood’ salads and gluten-free sandwiches to the inner-city lunch crowd. There are plenty of wholesome and delicious options for brekky, too — the green breakfast bowl, chia pot, and paleo apple crumble with coconut cream are all as nutritious as they are delicious.

Duo Tone’s forte is the five ‘Fit Bowls’ on the menu — the creatively named Spice Chicks, Nourish Flourish, Miso Mushroom Soba, Poḱe Doḱe and Hash Brisket, which all use locally sourced WA ingredients to produce a filling and flavoursome brunch.

After dipping their toes into the inner-city with a pop-up shop inside a shipping container, this Perth institution has established itself in the CBD at the bottom of the QV1 building on St Georges Terrace. Mary Street Bakery have brought their famous doughnuts and pastries with them, as well as specialty coffee courtesy of their roastery Offshoot. You find other Perth locations at Highgate, West Leederville and down the road in Allendale Square.
