The Best Hotels in Val d’Isère for Every Traveller
With its superb slopes, animated nightlife and spectacular views, Val d’Isère is one of the top ski resorts in France. It’s well-loved for its high altitude, offering snow-sure conditions and a vast off-piste playground. Joined with neighbouring Tignes, there are 300km – 186mi – of pistes to explore, ideal for intermediate to advanced skiers. The downside? It’s one of the most expensive ski resorts in France. Aside from the town centre, Le Daille is a popular base for access to the slopes and neighbouring bars, restaurants and shops. Le Fornet and Le Laisinant offer a better price, but you’ll need to get a taxi home at night. Read on to discover our pick of thebest hotels in Val d’Isère.
Le Refuge de Solaise
Boutique Hotel, Spa Hotel, Luxury
This humbling refuge, only accessible via the Solaise gondola, looks out over the French Alps from 2,550m (8,370ft) above sea level. Watch the sunrise and sunset from your bedroom – above the clouds – or on a clear night, trace out the constellations in the night sky. Inside the building, you’ll find luxury and modern style mixed with the traditional trappings of an alpine hut. Don’t worry about being beaten to the slopes in the morning – you’re already there.
Hôtel Kandahar
Boutique Hotel
Hôtel Kandahar was built in 1960 in a traditional Savoyard style of architecture, with wood and stone dominating the exterior look. The on-site restaurant, Taverne d’Alsace, has been headed by chef Michel Wehrung for more than 25 years, and it’s where French classics meet Alsatian (dishes from the Alsace region in France). Try the tarte flambée, Alsatian-style snails, home-made meatloaf or baeckeoffe (a hearty potato-and-beef casserole dish).
Le Yule Hotel and Spa
Luxury, Boutique Hotel, Spa Hotel
Slide down the Bellevarde and Solaise slopes and you’ll arrive at Le Yule, a few steps from the lifts and shops in the area. The five-star hotel in Val d’Isère is fantastically warm and comfy with considered, stylish lighting, cosy-as-it-gets rugs, wooden decor and big windows. The on-site Nuxe spa covers 400sqm (4,306sqft) dedicated to wellness. Meanwhile, Le Solstice restaurant is a bubbly place to try creative, unusual meals.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.
Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.
We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
