The 12 Coolest Things to See at This Wisconsin Motorcycle Dealership
Harley-Davidson was founded in Milwaukee in 1903, but their one dealership in Bonduel, Wisconsin, offers visitors much more than just the opportunity to drive away on a new hog. What sets Doc’s Harley-Davidson apart from the rest are the unique attractions just waiting to be discovered on its 58 acres of land—from a museum and restaurant to a zoo and pirate ship.
Doc’s Zoo
A motorcycle dealership is not a typical location for a zoo, but Doc has a full menagerie! From donkeys, goats, and camels to alligators, emus, and buffalo, this collection of animals is a rare find in northeastern Wisconsin.
Crocodile and Alligator Feeding
For those hoping to get up close and personal with the animals at the zoo, you can join the alligators and crocodiles for lunch! They are fed raw chicken once a week, and spectators are invited to watch them enjoy their tasty treats.
Biker Mezzanine
For a truly unique experience, those exploring Doc’s Zoo can take a break at the Biker Mezzanine. Custom furniture made from old Harley-Davidson parts can be found at the top of the spiral staircase. From above, visitors can look down at the live tortoises roaming about below.
Doc’s Classic Car & Cycle Museum
Classic car and motorcycle lovers should be sure to check out this free museum. Original gas station signs and other memorabilia line the walls, and the floor is covered in an impressive collection of muscle cars, including the famous Amphicar, which both drives and floats. The museum also features a remarkable engine collection, including a 1929 single cylinder stationary motor created by Harley-Davidson.
1938 Standard Gas Station
One of the most unique things to see in the Classic Car & Cycle Museum is the 1938 Standard gas station setup. This display takes up a whole wall of the museum and includes an original Standard sign that lights up and an authentic Milwaukee Pump Works gas pump from 1928.
The Dukes of Hazzard Car Chase
Above the entrance of the Classic Car & Cycle Museum, fans of the classic television show The Dukes of Hazzard will spot a familiar sight—a chase between Rosco P. Coltrane and the Duke brothers. An authentic General Lee autographed by custom car designer George Barris is on display inside the museum.
Harley Fan
This ceiling fan is fully functional and composed of almost entirely Harley-Davidson parts. The construction includes four full-size motorcycle windshields and is powered by a Harley-Davidson transmission and other parts from the legendary company’s bikes. Be sure to stop by the service department to check out this one-of-a-kind invention.
Timeline Motorcycle
The Timeline Motorcycle is something out of any motorbike enthusiast’s dreams. It is 24.5 feet (7.4 meters) long and seats 10 people. This impressive bike is fully functional and powered by seven engines dating from 1909 to the present. In 2009, a full 10 people rode the Timeline Motorcycle part of the way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Pirate Ship
Perhaps the most curious thing to spot at Doc’s Harley-Davidson is the 50-foot-long, 50-foot-tall (15.2 × 15.2 meters) pirate ship. In 2007, an old Carver yacht was used as the shell and converted into a full-size ship that visitors can tour in spring, summer, and fall. Equipped with handmade cannons and antique fixtures, Doc’s pirate ship looks like the real deal.
Timeline Saloon & BBQ
To finish off the day, visitors can enjoy a meal at the Timeline Saloon & BBQ, located right next door to Doc’s Harley-Davidson. It is the place to come for BBQ ribs, which are marinated for 48 hours and smoked in the on-site smokehouse with charcoal and applewood. While indulging in the tasty offerings, visitors will be able to admire the Timeline Motorcycle, which is on display here.
Antique & Mini-Shoppes Area
After satisfying their stomachs at the Timeline Saloon & BBQ, guests can browse the selection of antiques in the restaurant’s Antiques & Mini-Shoppes Area. The inventory is constantly changing; therefore, you never know what treasures you might discover.
Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast
One of Doc’s many creations is the Lighthouse. Covered in ocean paintings, this cozy cottage on a private pond is a great place to stay while exploring the surrounding area. The pine interior and handmade Amish log bed will make you feel right at home in Wisconsin’s north woods.
