Known for its great café culture, Kosovo—and especially its capital city Pristina—has plenty of gorgeous cafés where locals and tourists can taste excellent Turkish coffee and espresso. Pristina might not have the elegance of some other European capitals, but it has its charms, including one of the coolest café cultures in the world. Here are five cafés to stop in while in Kosovo.

Soma Book Station is one of the coolest cafés in Pristina and is quite possibly among the most beautiful in the Balkan Peninsula. It is the kind of place that attracts intellectuals, artists, expats, and students who enjoy spending time surrounded by books. Visitors will find classical and modern literature on the shelves, as well as magazines in English, Albanian, and Serbian. Soma is surrounded by a pristinely curated garden, which is the perfect spot for sipping coffee on sunny spring days. This lovely café hosts evening events, such as live music, movies, and literature discussions.

Similar to Soma, this café is also most frequented by intellectuals, such as journalists, university students, and so on. Once here, you will understand why: Dit’ e Nat’ is a lovely place with a nice patio and a great collection of books, novels, travel guides, and magazines. Order a carrot cake and a Turkish coffee to start your day in the best way.

Although Liburnia isn’t a proper café, it is among the best restaurants in Pristina. With a romantic and welcoming atmosphere set in an old Turkish-style house, Liburnia is a favorite among locals and tourists because it’s a great experience at a good value. The menu features traditional and local stews and grilled meat recipes, as well as international dishes, such as pizza or chicken rice with sweet chili. However, they also have some of the best Turkish coffee in town, which is served in a customary copper cup. Follow up your coffee with a traditional homemade pear raki, as Liburnia has some of the best in the country.
