Ljubljana is one of the smallest capitals in the world, which makes it easy to move in between its neighborhoods. The borders between the areas are not strictly defined, though are well known to the residents. The city center is the most vibrant part of the city, and the outskirts are more suitable for those who wish to be closer to nature. Old Town is the medieval part of Ljubljana located underneath Ljubljana Castle. The Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, Town Hall, and Robba Fountain are just a few attractions you can admire when walking the cobblestone streets of Old Town. Main street and hidden courtyards house shops in which you can find unique souvenirs to take home. Old Town Ljubljana also offers many restaurants and bars for you to stop by and enjoy the best of Slovenian and international cuisine.

City Center

The City Center of Ljubljana is teeming with activities. Sightseeing, shopping, dining, and partying to name just a few. Museums and galleries in the area take you on an art and history trip. The streets in the city center offer a great shopping experience for all fashionistas. Besides internationally established brands, the small boutiques present the creations of Slovenian designers. Tables in the restaurant gardens are always full of people trying to enjoy the sunshine and the company of their friends. In the evening, city bars create a vibrant atmosphere for those who wish to party the night away.

A short 15-minute bike ride away from the city center takes you to the beautiful neighborhood of Koseze. This area is ideal for those who like the city lifestyle, but wish to be surrounded by nature. The Koseze pond with a walking trail is a popular relaxation option with residents all year round. The fact that the pond has an on-site children’s playground is just another reason why this neighborhood is so attractive to young families. A morning hike to the nearby Roznik Hill is a ritual for many active residents of Koseze.

Tabor

A 10-minute walk from Prešern Square takes you to Tabor. During the day, the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum and Tabor Park are the most visited places in this neighborhood. The large garden of the museum’s café is where the locals love to come for their daily dose of caffeine. Tabor Park offers shade on hot a summer day and hosts events organized by the Sports Center Tabor. In the evening, Metelkova Mesto is the main attraction of the Tabor neighborhood. This Autonomous Cultural Center host art exhibitions, performances, or small concerts almost every night of the week.

Trnovo

Trnovo is a trendy neighborhood minutes away from the city center. Many bars and green scenery make it a popular choice for a coffee date or an evening drink among locals, especially those who prefer to stay out of the city center. Every August (since 1992) Trnovo hosts a month-long festival, Trnfest. In the atrium of KUD France Prešrern music performances, theater shows, and much more can be seen every evening. As a result of the of the location and a good nightlife, this neighborhood is popular among students and young adults.
