From a former bank to a gin emporium, bars in Wolverhampton are fantastically unique.

Gone are the days where city centres were full of boring British boozers with no soul or originality. Thanks to a recent boom in unusual bars, bars in Wolverhampton are better than ever.

The Bohemian

Opened in 2016 following a £200,000 investment, The Bohemian (known as ‘Boho’ to the locals) on Lichfield Street is a cocktail, craft beer and cider bar in the heart of the city. This industrial-looking hangout, with exposed brick walls and hanging bikes, boasts an extensive beer and cocktail list. Boho’s hand-stretched, stone-baked pizzas – comically named ‘Meat the Focker’ and ‘The Mexican Wall’ – are incredibly flavoursome. Alongside all of this, The Bohemian also has a Tiki-themed drinks menu. We recommend trying the Jungle Juice sharer cocktail, which is served in a hollowed-out watermelon and set on fire.

The Grain Store Gin Emporium & Kitchen

All things weird and wonderful are on the cards at The Grain Store Gin Emporium & Kitchen. Gin lovers will be in their element here as The Grain Store stocks more than 40 types of juniper and serves them up in their own signature style, complete with quirky garnishes like rosemary sprigs and cucumber ribbons. Couple this with the unveiling of Botanica, their new, al fresco cocktail lounge, and you’re on to a winner.

The Royal London

A firm favourite with locals and students alike, The Royal London is your port of call for a great value night out in Wolverhampton. Situated on Wulfruna Street in the city centre, it is host to regular gaming nights, smartphone pub quizzes, live music & DJs, and is also a perfect place to watch live sports. The pub also proclaims an incredibly affordable food menu.

The Dog & Doublet

The Dog & Doublet is a popular bar for live music, sport and homely food. Situated on North Street, this traditional freehouse features two real log burners, home-cooked food, live sport, great local bands and vinyl DJ nights. Furthermore, it’s only a ten-minute walk from Wolverhampton station.

The Prince Albert

This contemporary wine bar and eatery calls a beautiful, three-floored Victorian building its home, and has recently undergone renovation to become an incredibly popular bar in the city. The Prince Albert finds itself at the gateway of Wolverhampton’s forthcoming i9 development, which is set to add further regeneration to the ever-changing city centre, and is also a short stroll from the Grand Theatre.
