We round up the best cafés in Amiens, France, from cat cafés to American-style coffee shops and industrial chic haunts, Amiens has plenty to offer the caffeine-hungry crowd.

Much of Amiens’ population are hard-working university students who rely on a regular caffeine fix to get them through their studies. The result is an array of trendy cafés and coffee shops where scholars can hunker down with their books, or meet up with friends for a well-deserved break.

Head to Le Café during the day for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up and light lunch, or visit for an aperitif or nightcap when it transforms into a spot for late-night revelry come nightfall. Quirky and fun, the interior has a colourful, mismatched décor complete with artwork by local artists and a mini library for added cosiness, while a large and inviting terrace cradles its street-corner location.

DASI Frères La Brûlerie

Cafe, Coffee Shop, French

The Dasi family has been in the coffee business in Amiens since 1962, where they began as a roaster and supplier for hotels, restaurants and bars. In 2014, they opened up their flagship shop and café in the city: a hip, industrial-style haunt where you can settle in with one of their single origin roasts made from beans hailing from over 35 different countries. If coffee isn’t your thing, choose from a variety of teas from coveted French brands such as Palais des Thés and Kusmi Tea.

Not only does Miam’s serve some of the best, no-frills food in Amiens, it also doubles as a place where you can grab a quick beverage like a cold-pressed juice, milkshake or homemade iced tea. Pair it with something sweet from the pastry counter, such as a slice of the café’s signature cheesecake or a classic French crêpe while seated in a comfy armchair in their intimate and relaxed dining area.

Star Coffee

Cafe, Coffee Shop, French

Get a taste of New York City in this Americanised version of a French café, serving a selection of grilled paninis, burgers and pancakes alongside coffees blended with Nutella, milkshakes and a “USA Big Coffee” – another moniker for a classic drip brew. They also offer an epic brunch on Saturdays and Sundays where you can chow down on crêpes, bacon, pastries, mini croques monsieurs and more, for a bargain €20 per person.

Les Coeurs de Marie

Cafe, Tea Room, French

For photo-worthy tarts, fresh-baked macarons d’Amiens – a regional speciality made with almond flour and apricot jam – and a vast menu of teas, look no further than Les Coeurs de Marie. Savour it all from the feminine, casual interior that sees a spectrum of soft greys with splashes of hot pink, or from the intimate outdoor terrace.

Mug and Cats

Cat and Dog Cafe, French

If you prefer to pair your coffee with furry friends instead of dessert (though, be sure not to overlook their cake slices and granola bowls), then a visit to Mug and Cats is a must. The interior is designed with cats in mind, yet ends up being just as comfy for humans with cushioned wicker chairs (to keep the furniture scratch-free, of course) and sticks of driftwood that serve as scratching posts. Go simply for the kitties’ company, or you could even head home with your own in tow through their adoption programme.
