Slovakia is a country blessed with gorgeous mountain peaks, rolling hills, winding rivers, and scenic vistas from east to west. If you only spend your time in the flatlands around Bratislava, you will miss out on the natural treasures that the rest of the country offers. Camping and glamping provide the perfect opportunity for getting off the beaten track and out into breathtaking nature with ample opportunities for hiking, kayaking, caving, or cycling. Read on to discover our best suggestions for campsites and glampsites in Slovakia.

Camping Turiec (north-central Slovakia)

The city of Martin, Slovakia, is home to the open-air Museum of the Slovak Village and the Slovak National Museum’s Ethnographic Museum. Camping Turiec is located just at the edge of town with hiker’s cabins, rooms, and bungalows within easy access of the city of Martin and several cycling trails. Although the camping facilities aren’t regarded as being ultramodern, visitors consistently report them being in spotless condition. The camp has a small wooden cottage with a public games room, and there is a restaurant within walking distance with tasty and affordable Slovak food. Due to this campsite’s close proximity to museums, mountains, and castles, it makes an excellent base for exploring the north of Slovakia.

Camping Guesthouse Sedliacky Dvor / Het Boerenhof (central Slovakia)

Guesthouse, Camping

If hiking, cycling, or skiing in Slovakia’s gorgeous Low Tatra mountain range sounds appealing to you, this campsite offers the perfect location for easy access to the mountains! You can choose from a holiday house for two to six people, a B & B farm room for one to four people, a caravan with a tent and wooden terrace, or a fully equipped tent for one to four people. You can also bring your own RV or tent and pick a lovely spot within the campground year round. The friendly hosts here invite their guests to join them on day trips to pick mushrooms and herbs, or to make traditional cow cheese. They also make homemade marmalade and fruit liqueur on the premises. Camping Guesthouse Sedliacky Dvor is a good choice if you want to get to know your campsite hosts, partake in local Slovak life, and spend time exploring the Low Tatras.

Havran Cottage (south-central Slovakia)

Have you ever wanted to sleep in a teepee? At Havran Cottage, you can take your pick between a teepee, a restored vintage trailer, or a cottage room as your home base for exploring spacious open meadows, sparkling lakes, ancient castle ruins, and thermal hot spas in the area. You can also explore the nearby UNESCO World Heritage town of Banska Stiavnica, one of Slovakia’s hidden gems. The campsite is about a two-hour drive from Bratislava or Budapest, making it easy to arrive from either airport. You’ll be able to see the stars clearly, as there are no large cities near the campsite. In the morning, a healthy breakfast is included in your campsite cost. You don’t have to worry about packing much if you decide to go glamping at Havran Cottage, as bedding, towels, and basic cookware in the communal kitchen are provided. With teepees sleeping up to five people available starting at €30/night, Havran Cottage offers an excellent value.

Areál Zdravia Zlaté Piesky (western Slovakia)

Camping

Slightly northeast of Bratislava, the “Golden Sands” campground offers a large beach with a capacity for thousands of visitors and a beautiful lake with water bikes for hire. You can also hire a boat to go waterskiing or play a game of miniature golf, tennis, table tennis, beach volleyball, or basketball within the campsite grounds. There is enough space at this large campsite to pitch up to 300 tents, and there are also 45 chalets, 20 bungalows, and an apartment for hire. This campsite frequently hosts music events during the summer such as the Uprising Reggae Festival and a hip-hop music festival. With all of the activities available here, you may not have a quiet retreat, but you certainly will not be bored!

Camping Belá Nižné Kamence (north-central Slovakia)

Camping

No tent? No problem, you can rent one at Camping Belá Nižné Kamence. You can also rent cooking tables, grills, and other equipment to enhance your camping experience onsite. Kids love the mini petting zoo, the swimming pool, and the bike rentals. For a glamping experience, you can also opt to stay in a well-equipped log cabin. For a relaxing day, you can spend hours fishing near the campsite, but more active visitors enjoy hiking in the Mala Fatra mountain range. The campsite is also within easy access of the city Zilina with its museums and cultural events.

Camping Lodenica (western Slovakia)

Camping Lodenica is a water-lover’s paradise, as it lies on the shores of the beautiful Seneca Lake, just 1.5 kilometers from one of Slovakia’s most famous thermal spa towns, Piestany. You can choose to lounge in the lake, go rafting down the nearby Hron River, or relax in the Art Deco thermal baths in Piestany. During the summer, it’s possible to rent canoes and rowboats at Seneca lake, as well as to go waterskiing. Cyclists enjoy the trail that runs along the Hron River. This campsite isn’t glamorous and is fairly no-frills, but the location and easy access to sporting activities make it a great value.

You can toast marshmallows around the communal fire at night and easily explore local treasures such as the Zvolen Castle during the day.
