The Best Craft Beer Bars in Bucharest
The local craft beer scene is busier and livelier than ever in Bucharest. New independent microbreweries enter the market every year, and the city’s bars are also catching up with locals’ thirst for craft beer. Here are some handpicked craft beer bars to visit while in Bucharest. Next time someone asks you “What’s your favourite Romanian craft beer?” you can stun them with a whole list.
Fabrica De Bere Bună
Bar, Craft Ale Bar, Tapas
La 100 de Beri
Bar, Craft Ale Bar, Contemporary
Found on one of the most colorful yet quaint streets of the Old Center, this bar is a gem that offers more than 100 beers, including a wealth of foreign and Romanian brews. In fact, labels from cities throughout Romania fill the sizeable menu. Due to the long hours of operation, La 100 de Beri is a great destination while on a city break during the week, and the terrace is just big enough to be lively and still intimate.
Mikkeller Bucharest
Bar, Craft Ale Bar, Contemporary, Romanian, Fast Food
An international Danish chain of craft beer bars, Mikkeller Bucharest is one of the sleekest bars in the Romanian capital. Spread over two floors of a beautiful villa in Northern Bucharest, the space is a combination of Scandinavian design with surprising touches that lend a little bit of the hygge vibe. They offer great food, but the bar, of course, is the biggest attraction here, with 20 beers on tap, a distinction only five of the locations outside of Denmark can claim. The brews on offer include their own label, as well as international options.
Happy Pub
Bar, Craft Ale Bar, Contemporary
A stone’s throw from Piața Romană, Happy Pub never disappoints. The cozy and relaxed atmosphere features posters and photos on the color-block walls, all of which lend to the vintage charm. They offer an endless selection of craft beers from all over the world, and there is always great music playing, mostly rock hits from the best movie soundtracks. In the warm months, sit out on the little terrace for an intimate setting with a wide array of beers.
The Urbanist
Cafe, Bar, Cocktail Bar, Craft Ale Bar, Fast Food
Set on one of the gateways to the Old Center, The Urbanist is a cool mix between a café, a bistro, and a craft beer bar. Leave aside, if you can, their highly Instagrammable cocktails, and delve into the well-curated selection of local craft beers. Although they open early, The Urbanist is a favorite pre-party stop, and they often host DJs, who spin late into the night.
Bere şi Bere Pub
Bar, Pub, Tapas
Translated as “Beer and Beer Pub,” this place attracts local beer connoisseurs with 70 kinds of beer served in a low-key and relaxed atmosphere. Set in a residential part of Bucharest, this bar offers a quieter alternative to the more touristy places found in the Old Center. The craft beer selection includes 25 kinds, 20 of which are from local microbreweries. Perhaps most importantly, this is the only place in town where you can sample Capra noastră, made in Iași, as well as Bereta, which hails from Timişoara.
Beer O'Clock
Bar, Pub, Tapas
Beer O’Clock was the first bar in the city that took beer seriously. Since opening in 2010, it has become something of an institution and serves a whopping 165 kinds of beer. Their selection focuses exclusively on imported beers, with Belgium, Scotland, and Czech Republic best represented.
