The Best Hotels and B&Bs to Book Near Mountain View, Virginia
You’ll have mountain views aplenty when you check into one of these Roanoke hotels, all bookable with Culture Trip.
Offering romance by the bucketful, Virginia is perfect for lovebirds of all types. Forest blankets the state as it slopes from the mountainous west to the Atlantic coast. Roanoke is great for shopping sprees, museum visits, and lovey-dovey dining. Its Mountain View neighborhood appeals to outdoor enthusiasts, with McAfee Knob just a 20-minute drive away.
The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center
Hotel
You’ll sleep like a king in this distinctly Tudor-style hotel, with its steeply-pitched roof, overlapping gables, and brick façade – accentuated with decorative half-timbering. The ye olde world feel continues inside, with a lobby resplendent with chandeliers and wood pillars. Guest rooms are rich with wood tones, while plush armchairs and four-poster beds embody the romantic ideal of an English country manor. Less in keeping with the period is the spa, outdoor pool, gym, and restaurant – but then jousting is far less relaxing.
Hampton Inn and Suites Roanoke Downtown
Chain Hotel
The Pac-Man-style arcade machine in the business center may be a little out of date (not to mention distracting if you’re trying to get some work done), but that’s the only thing that doesn’t feel cool and contemporary in this city center hotel. Rooms are a scene of serenity, dressed in calming tones of caramel and coffee, and equipped with large flat-screen TVs, while its fitness center is stacked with state-of-the-art gear, from cross-trainers to treadmills.
Roanoke Boutique Hotel
Hotel
Step out of this boutique townhouse hotel, and you’re two blocks away from The Jefferson Center, Roanoke’s concert hub. Wake to the sound of jazz ringing your ears, and head downstairs for a freshly prepared (complimentary) breakfast in the open-plan, cottage-cool kitchen, where exposed original brickwork, wooden floors and industrial-feeling black units will make you feel like you’re staying over at an artist friend’s house. Fuelled up? Pick your bikes from the private lockup out back and hit the city, hipster-style.
SpringHill Suites by Marriott Roanoke
Suite Hotel
Offering public spaces as contemporary and crisp-feeling as a computer-generated rendering, every inch of this spot is flooded with natural light – from the hotel’s lobby, with its towering double-height floor-to-ceiling windows, to the indoor pool. Suites are just as cool, with navy blue, geometric-patterned feature walls behind the beds and views of the Blue Ridge Mountains out of most windows.
King George Inn Bed and Breakfast
Hotel
With its porticoed entrance, box hedges and immaculate red brick exterior, the King George looks like the kind of townhouse you’d see on the set of a Christmas movie. And, if you happen to stay over the holiday period, the interior is all kinds of cozy, with bauble-hung Christmas trees twinkling by the fireplace and stockings hung in bedrooms. That said, summer, spring and autumn are great times to visit too, with hikes in Mill Mountain Park just eight minutes’ drive away.
Holiday Inn Roanoke - Valley View
Chain Hotel
We won’t beat around the bush (although the seasonally-flowering shrubs outside the entrance are very nice), this hotel’s biggest asset is its location – next door to Blacksburg airport and less than 10 minutes from the feet of the Blue Ridge Mountains. After a day splitting quivers like Robin Hood at the nearby Sherwood Archery, or getting wet and wild at Splash Valley water park, kick back with a local craft beer or two at the hotel’s Black Birch Restaurant and Tap House.
Hyatt Place Roanoke Airport/Valley View Mall
Hotel
An airport hotel, with inner-city style? You bet. Despite being just about within a paper plane’s toss of Blacksburg airport’s runway, the modern, mid-century feel of this hotel is more than a step above most fly-and-flop business digs. Rooms are smart and sophisticated, with generous L-shaped sofas, warm wood headboards and chromed-up, Art Deco-inspired light fixtures. Our favorite part about this one, though, is that it’s pet-friendly, meaning you can explore the nearby mountains with your four-legged companion.
Courtyard by Marriott Roanoke Airport
Chain Hotel
Courtyard welcomes its guests with a long portico, demonstrating it’s a cut above typical three-star options. The carpeted lobby is also eye-catching, with several nooks, each outfitted with a TV. Wacky armchairs feature oversized headrests, and there are even fabric recliners to watch the box. The modern style continues in the spacious rooms kitted out with climate-controlled AC, pillow-top beds, and 37-inch LCD screens. This airport hotel with an indoor pool sits in a peaceful spot, but the Valley View Mall is nearby if you’re keen to shop ‘til you drop.
