Port city Rosario spawned Che Guevara and Lionel Messi, but its rebirth as a vibrant northern Argentine city is what attracts most visitors today. Behind the high rises, you’ll find some of the most special Art Nouveau buildings in the country, plus plenty of museums, large parks and a lovely waterfront. When it comes to accommodation, this collection of the best hotels in Rosario will allow you to stay in style.

Puerto Norte Design Hotel

Hotel

In a port city, nothing beats staying on the waterfront, and this high-end riverside hotel helps you do just that. The striking glass structure certainly numbers among the most original accommodations in Argentina, embracing a row of seven silos that stand testimony to Rosario as a major industrial center. Floor-to-ceiling glass in the rooms lets in the light, the spa includes massages with bamboo and hot stones, and there is a splendid rooftop pool.

This modern hotel to the northeast of the city center wins lots of points for looks: a horizon-dominating affair with a minimalist design and a color palette of sleek grey and white. There’s also a rooftop pool from which views over the sultry Paraná River are wide and wonderful. It’s well located for the Alto Rosario shopping complex and for the waterside park, Parque Sunchales, which follows the river for some 1.2 miles (2km).

Hotel Solans Riviera

In the thick of the thoroughfares in Rosario – just a skip from the Casa Natal de Che Guevara (birthplace of Che Guevara) and the imposing Art Deco landmark of Palacio Minetti – this branch of the Solans chain has a preened, traditional feel. Rooms are predictably smart in their cream and coffee tones. The colonnaded restaurant-bar, which hosts live piano recitals, is famous for its upmarket Argentine food.

Amérian Puerto Rosario Hotel

Step inside the glassy, double-height colonnaded lobby of Amérian Puerto Rosario for a stylish city stay. The 11-floor, 53-room branch of the nationwide chain Amérian has a central location close to the Plaza Sarmiento. There’s also ample valet parking, a gym, a sauna, an outdoor pool offering a nice panorama of the city, and a well-regarded second-floor restaurant.

Ariston Hotel

Just north of the city center, close to Plaza San Martín, the Ariston is one of the older hotels in the city. The free private parking and the rooftop pool (open in summer), are big pluses, while the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Otherwise, the main asset of this lodging is the proximity to the city bus station, a 20-minute walk away.

Roberta Rosa de Fontana Suites

Suite Hotel

Located between the central Plaza Sarmiento and Plaza Pringles, these suites are tucked above a vibrant café. The neat, typically minimalist accommodations come with black floors and an interesting use of orange, yellow and lime that goes some way to prettifying the concrete exterior. The six suites each come with a small kitchen, while a continental breakfast is served to the room. Size is one of the prizes here, too, with guest rooms ranging up to 430sqft (40sqm).

Carat

Serviced Apartment

Towards the southwest of the central grid near the resplendent Parque Independencia, one of prettiest city center parks in the country, the Carat offers one of the best apartment-hotel experiences in town. The 37 apartments are stylishly presented and oh-so sleek: the entry-level Junior Suites are still a substantial 420sqft (40sqm) and feature superbly appointed kitchens with breakfast bars. After that, it’s all up, up, up in quality, with the two-story loft apartments just sublime.

1412

Hotel

The 1412 occupies a turn-of-the-20th-century building but, having opened in 2013, is a relatively recent addition to the Rosario accommodation game. Bold red tones, such as those found in the refined lobby-cum-bar and on the poppy flower pillows and bedspreads, give this little lodging a real personality (not easy among the plethora of city hotels). Your sleep will be sweet courtesy of the thick Simmons mattresses and 180-thread-count calico bedsheets.
