Best Markets in Salt Lake City, Utah
Shopping for fresh produce in a farmer’s market or coming home with exciting finds from a flea market – there’s nothing quite as satisfying as that. We pick the best markets in Salt Lake City, Utah, to make your next shopping experience an unusual and refreshing one. So read on and fill your shopping bags with some fun finds.
Urban Flea Market
A relaxed shopping experience where vendors swap their excess items with antique- and quirky-item lovers, the Urban Flea market is completely free for admission and ideal for a Sunday. It occurs on a monthly basis, running from May to October, allowing people to experience something new every time and return with exciting finds. It’s a well-known and loved event in Salt Lake City and a part of the city’s culture, so go along and experience it for yourself!
The Downtown Farmers Market
The Downtown Farmers Market runs from June to October, on Saturdays, and is always a magnet for people looking for fresh, locally-produced groceries and food. The vendors represent over 100 farms and ranches around Salt Lake City and there are sellers from over 16 counties in Utah. The Market supports sustainable farming, and you’ll find that there are more than just groceries and vegetables there: there’s also food cooked and baked from the fresh produce. Several of Utah’s major food businesses started off at the Market, and every year some of the vendors from the market do end up setting up a permanent food business.
Art & Craft Market
This is at the same location as the Downtown Farmers Market, and features local artisanal objects. There’s a variety of arts and crafts on sale – from ceramics, glass work, jewellery, to more unusual items such as leatherwork, and metalwork. The variety of items on sale means that you won’t ever again be stumped to buy a present or to be inspired to create some new artwork for yourself. There are almost 150 local artists there, and often there’s also live music – a fun community event not to be missed.
Sugar House Farmers Market
Another local farmers market on the list is the Sugar House Farmers Market, which is on a smaller scale than the Downtown Farmers Market but is nevertheless a lively and interesting place. In addition to farm products, this market also sells arts and crafts, and cooked and packaged food. There’s also space to eat on site and exciting events lined up for children, such as the fall pumpkin carving event that always attracts a young crowd.
Salt Lake Vintage Flea Market
The Salt Lake Vintage Flea Market is an indoor market and is in operation year-round. The owners of the flea market were originally vendors at other markets and decided to open one that could stay open year-round. In addition to the Vintage Flea Market, they also host online auctions on the first Friday of every month. The Market also hosts occasional events year-round, including fashion shows and car shows, and is a great place to start a business.
