Bangalore’s evolving culinary landscape has inspired a new food trend in the city. With chefs aiming to provide a fun, contemporary take on Asian cuisine, Bangalore’s best Pan-Asian restaurants will not disappoint.

Sriracha

Located in the open-air food court of the opulent UB City Mall, Sriracha is serving food that the chefs have encountered on their travels throughout Asia. The menu contains fascinating nuggets of food history alongside a list of delicious dishes, with many of the classics hitting just the right spot. The best way to begin the meal is with a couple of baskets of dim sum (the fish and sesame dumplings are at the top of the list, followed by the wild mushroom purple dumplings). But the ultimate comfort food that takes centre stage is the restaurant’s curry laksa, a spiced coconut milk based soup served with silken tofu, prawns and chicken.

1Q1

In terms of décor, 1Q1 knocks it out of the park. This spacious restaurant is housed inside a large Art Deco building. Think huge concrete arches, brick-red ceilings, muted green walls and tasteful furnishings. 1Q1 also hosts music events in the evenings, and has a small stage and a decent set of speakers – during lunchtime, the music plays at just the right volume. The restaurant offers Pan-Asian dishes ranging from sushi to ramen, and also specialises in Nikkei cuisine, a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian influences. Try the Robatayaki menu (a method of cooking food over hot charcoal) and the agedashi tofu starter. And don’t miss out on the matcha and raspberry ice cream meringue cake with its excellently balanced flavours and textures.

Mamagoto

‘Mamagoto’ means ‘to play with food,’ and this quirky restaurant does just that. This Indiranagar restaurant is decorated in a quirky industrial style, with Asian pop art adorning aesthetically pleasing paint-spattered brick walls. But the most exciting thing about this popular restaurant is its extensive menu, with food inspired from street vendor stalls across Asia. Playing a strong dim sum game (with the best gyozas in Bangalore), the place takes it a step further with scrumptious curry and rice bowls, which are big enough for two people to share. The Chiang Mai Train Station Noodles are particularly delicious.

The Fatty Bao

This chic, brightly decorated restaurant offers innovative Asian fare presented in a bright, eye-catching style. And when it comes to taste, Fatty Bao does no wrong – you’ll be returning, again and again, to sample dishes from their menu. As their name suggests, the place is mostly known for their baos, which are soft white steamed buns originating from China. You won’t be able to get enough of the Char Siu bao– sticky sweet belly pork paired with slices of green onion and kimchi. A more unusual, but equally delicious, dish is the brie tempura with plum sauce, pickled beetroot and a sprinkling of shichimi togarashi. Fatty Bao also serves delicious desserts and the Japanese cheesecake is highly recommended.

Yauatcha

Yauatcha is located on the fifth floor of the 1 MG-Lido Mall, with panoramic views of the city through its blue-tinted windows. The restaurant is spacious, with minimalist décor, because the food is the star of the show here (the London branch of Yauatcha even received a Michelin star). In the Bangalore branch, you can also expect exquisitely crafted dishes. Without a doubt, Yauatcha serves the best dim sum in Bangalore. The truffle edamame dumplings are divine, as are the Shanghai dumplings (Xiaolongbao), which are filled with broth and a layer of minced chicken. Among the favourite main courses are the stir-fry tenderloin with black pepper sauce, which is delightfully tender, and the crispy lamb with raw mango. Yauatcha is also renowned for their European-style patisserie and their extensive range of teas, which is the perfect way to finish off a great meal.
