If there’s one thing that Taiwan is famous for, it’s the local cuisine, and nothing quite tops the passion Taiwanese have for excellent seafood. In fact, seafood is so popular here that it’s quite common for friends to bypass bars on a Friday night and head straight for the local seafood restaurant, where they can enjoy beer and food late into the night. So for those who crave a nice lobster dinner, here are the best places to go.

Considered by many to be paradise for seafood lovers, this is actually three restaurants in one. A sushi bar, a hot pot restaurant, and a Korean barbecue offer diners a wide range of choices. Add to that the fact that it’s located in the same building as a fish market, and you have a recipe for one of the finest seafood culinary experiences you can get.

Shrimp Daddy

Restaurant, Seafood

This bayou-style seafood restaurant aims to bring a new style of eating to Taiwan inspired by the United States’ Deep South dining experience. Similar to the rustic vibe of traditional Taiwanese restaurants, the décor at Shrimp Daddy is minimal and clean. At Shrimp Daddy, it is as much about the experience as it is about the food. For sure, the great atmosphere provided by the restaurant is one of the major attractions of this place, but when it boils down to it, it’s the tasty food that has everyone coming back for more.

Shin Tung Nan Seafood Restaurant

Restaurant, Seafood

Opened in 1979, Shin Tung Nan is one of the oldest and most famous seafood restaurants in the city. With over 60 items on the menu and a broad range of traditional local dishes, this is the place to go for a taste of true Taiwanese seafood. The staff are quite helpful and will help you choose dishes according to your tastes, while the chefs can tailor their signature dishes to suit any palate.

As one of the most expensive seafood dining establishments in Taipei, diners at this restaurant expect nothing but the best – and fortunately that’s usually what they get. While the menu includes many old favorites, there are some quite inspired additions that will surprise and delight. There’s a huge main dining area, but for a real elite experience, diners can opt for a private room. It’s not cheap, but it is worth it.

This rather aptly named restaurant has been around for over a decade and has proven to be a huge hit with both local and visiting diners. There are the usual dishes, of course, but it’s the chef’s willingness to cater to the needs and wants of each and every diner that makes this a very special place. Fancy a little spice with your meal? Then all you have to do is ask.

Hai Jiu Penghu

Restaurant, Seafood

Fresh, delicious and simple seafood at a reasonable price is the selling point of this extremely popular seafood restaurant. Pick fresh, seafood next door from the aquarium, and the chef will prepare the dish based on the diner’s choice and the tastes. With a nice elegant feel to the décor, this is one of those places that feels more expensive than it actually is.

Pearl Liang

Restaurant, Seafood

A meal in the Grand Hyatt is always a special experience, and at the hotel’s Cantonese Pearl Liang restaurant, diners can enjoy some of the finest Hong Kong-style seafood available in Taiwan. It’s a real high-end experience, which should come as no surprise, and so you can expect the highest level of service along with exquisitely prepared dishes.
