Shiori

Evolving from the spirit of Japanese tea ceremonies, which are often unique and once in a lifetime occasions, Shiori is the epitome of an intimate, unique dining experience in Berlin. The restaurant offers only one, small seating each night, presenting a gourmet a menu of traditional Japanese cuisine. No more than 12 people can experience this cosy restaurant at a time, allowing the guest to be enveloped in the contemporary experience.

Ryong is one of Berlin’s best Asian joints, with a fusion and meat-free twist. Located centrally on Torstraße in Mitte, this spot offers up an unrivalled fusion Asian menu, including their signature bento boxes and bao burgers, combining Vietnamese and Japanese food with a modern twist. The interior is made up of bare walls and close-together wooden tables, offering a snug, bustling atmosphere.

Cookies Cream is Berlin’s coolest, underground meat-free joint. The speakeasy-style restaurant is the capital’s high-end vegetarian haven, and promises a low-lit, intimate and exclusive dining experience. Offering the finest vegetarian and vegan meals in Berlin, this is one of the city’s lesser-known Michelin starred restaurants. Its entrance is reached via the Westin Grand Hotel’s service alley, however, visitors won’t be able secure a table without a booking.

Laid-back, hip, intimate and delicious, Mrs Robinson’s is the stylish, Prenzlauer Berg newcomer. The restaurant, started by Samina Raza and Ben Zviel, promises a contemporary dining experience with plenty of Asian flavours, while the cosy space offers a more intimate dining experience, complete with white walls and sleek furnishings, offering an overall relaxed, unfussy feel. Walk-ins are welcome, but it’s best to book online to secure your spot at this trendy local gem.

St Mauli is the Friedrichshain favourite, serving up southwestern German soul food. The minimalist, contemporary-style restaurant masters the art of truly delicious Maultaschen, a traditional German pasta-like dish, that originated in the region of Swabia in Baden-Württemberg. The restaurant was started by passionate foodie Nico Bulla, whose first love of spinning records can also be felt throughout the restaurant’s cosy, yet chic interior, setting the perfect tone for the relaxed, tasty dining experience at St Mauli. The perfect place to try a German delicacy, this laid-back snug spot is a must when in Berlin.

Café Pförtner

Unusual, artistic and cosy, Cafe Pförtner, is a quirky bistro with tables in a vintage bus and surrounding courtyard. Located in Wedding, this converted gatehouse of a former bus repair station has been transformed into artists’ studios and a rustic cafe, serving up warming, market-fresh specials, homemade cakes and light lunches. Here, the menu is scribbled on black chalkboards and guests have the choice of cosy dining in a repurposed bus, or in the nearby courtyard – either way, they are promised a lunch or evening meal that is tasty, rustic and thoroughly charming.
