The Story Behind Las Vegas’ Eiffel Tower
From the Brooklyn Bridge to the pyramids of Ancient Egypt, visitors get to experience a little taste of the world on the Las Vegas Strip. The Paris Las Vegas Resort & Casino brings the City of Lights to the Entertainment Capital of the World. Besides the Luxor’s pyramid, the 540-foot (164.5-meter) replica of the Eiffel Tower has become a signature of the Las Vegas Strip.
Construction began on the Paris Las Vegas Resort & Casino and its accompanying tower in 1997, with its completion taking place the following year. The Paris connects to its sister hotel, Bally’s, via tram. Initially, plans included a full-size replica of the famous Eiffel Tower, but due to flight path concerns from McCarran Airport, the tower had to be scaled down. Despite the reduction in its size, the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas still offers the highest viewpoint of the Las Vegas Strip. At its architectural height, it stands over 40 feet (12 meters) taller than the High Roller Ferris wheel at the nearby LINQ. It’s become a popular place to celebrate Valentine’s Day, host a wedding, and, thanks to the Eiffel Tower Experience, take selfies.
The Eiffel Tower Experience is a unique and different way to enjoy the Las Vegas Strip. Tickets start at $16 for adults, and the experience allows guests to ride the only elevator that ascends to the very top of the Eiffel Tower. From the top of the tower, you get a unique view of the Bellagio Fountains, which is especially intriguing during the nightly light shows that take place.
Despite the tower’s massive size, stories of those who’ve scaled the Eiffel Tower have raised questions regarding security for the Paris and Caesars Entertainment, its parent company. Last summer, three young men were found to have scaled the side of the Eiffel Tower without anyone’s knowledge until video footage was made available via social media.
The Eiffel Tower is a main feature of the Las Vegas Strip, in the way the original was during the Exposition Universelle. From its breathtaking views to its romantic atmosphere, it’s a perfect place for anyone in Las Vegas to visit.
