New Orleans may be famous for Cajun and Creole cuisine, but the city’s vibrant restaurant Creole scene covers much more ground. Visitors can find at least one restaurant that features dishes and décor from many countries around the world, from Asia, Africa, and Europe, to Central and South America. That includes traditional Honduran dishes, as New Orleans is home to the largest Honduran American community in the United States as of 2014. Check out these restaurants to find authentic Honduran food in New Orleans.

Los Catrachos

Restaurant, Honduran

Originally launched in the suburb of Metairie, Los Catrachos opened a second location to bring its traditional Honduran fare to the Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans. The menu primarily features dishes that uphold the food genre’s customary simplicity, using spices more sparingly but also thoughtfully to enhance proteins like carne asada and produce like maduros, or ripe plantains. Don’t miss out on crowd favorites like the baleadas or the pollo con tajadas, or fried chicken with green banana chips, and wash down your meal with a hibiscus or tart tamarind refresco.

Casa Honduras

Restaurant, Honduran

Casa Honduras in New Orleans East is worth the quick trip out of the main touristy areas of the city, especially if you’re in the mood for authentic Honduran cuisine and dishes from other nearby Central and South American culinary traditions. The menu dedicates an entire page to desayunos, or breakfast dishes, in addition to dishes available as meals or a la carte. Unlike some other Honduran establishments in the area, Casa Honduras does serve up cervezas, including both domestic, and imported beer brands.

El Sabor Catracho

Restaurant, Honduran

Just across the Mississippi River in the Terrytown neighborhood of the Westbank, El Sabor Catracho serves up freshly prepared Honduran classics like baleadas and tostadas hondureñas out of its unsuspecting strip mall location. Other crowd favorites include the taquitos hondureños and the carne molida con tajadas, but you can’t go wrong with this flavorful, yet straightforward menu.

Beraca

Restaurant, Honduran

This hole-in-the-wall in Metairie, a New Orleans suburb, offers a menu of authentic Honduran plates, soups, and side dishes that even native Hondurans endorse in their reviews. Beraca knows how to handle its ingredients with care, including transforming basic favorites like fried plantains and taquitos into memorable meals any Central American food fan can enjoy.

La Nueva Hacienda

Restaurant, Honduran

For fresh, handmade tortillas, tamales, and other tasty Honduran delicacies, La Nueva Hacienda aims to please by sticking to the basics of the country’s culinary traditions. Diners come for the dishes and flavors they know and trust, but they stay for the rustic familiarity of the restaurant and its staff.
