Denver’s Japanese restaurant scene is about much more than just sushi, though three are some great spots for when the sushi craving hits, too. However, you can also enjoy Japanese noodles, sake, and so much more. Here’s where to get Japanese food in Denver.

Sushi Den

Restaurant, Japanese, Sushi

Sushi Den is perhaps the most popular sushi joint in the Mile High City, and for good reason. The fish is flown in daily from Japan, and every dish and sauce is made from scratch. Enjoy catch-of-the-day specials brought in from a fish market in the city of Fukuoka within 24 hours of having been caught. You’ll also love the 2-for-1 Sake specials during the evening happy hour. This place is definitely worth the splurge.

Domo

Restaurant, Japanese

Domo is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience. Their menu focuses on Japanese country foods, such as teriyaki and nabemono, traditional Japanese pot-cooked dishes. The restaurant also has a Japanese country museum and a traditional Japanese garden, providing diners with a unique cultural experience. Enjoy the seats made of tree trunks and stumps set in a rustic interior.

Uncle

Restaurant, Japanese, Ramen

If you love ramen, then trendy Uncle, in the Highlands neighborhood, is the place for you. This no-frills restaurant feels like a traditional ramen shop, but the menu provides a new take, using handmade noodles, responsibly raised meat and poultry, seasonal produce, and excellent broths.

Tokio

Restaurant, Japanese, Ramen

Tokio offers guests an atmosphere reflective of Tokyo’s bustling streets. The bi-level restaurant’s interior was designed by Kanji Ueki, who is also responsible for the Apple stores. The menu focuses on contemporary Japanese dishes, such as ramen, sushi, and yakitori, along with sake flights. This is also the place to come to satisfy late night cravings.

Matsuhisa Denver

Restaurant with Rooms, Japanese, Sushi

Matsuhisa Denver, in Cherry Creek, is an upscale sushi eatery from world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa. The menu focuses on new-style Japanese cuisine, including such signature dishes as yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño, black cod miso, and white fish tiradito. Two private dining rooms make it the perfect place for a party as well.
