The Best European Trips for Foodies
From tapas tours in Spain to street food in Italy, these are the most mouthwatering itineraries featured on our collection of European trips.
City Hopping in Spain by Train
Love tapas? Spain’s approach to dining is not just about delicious dishes whipped up using locally sourced ingredients. The whole experience is inherently communal. Food is to be shared with your favourite people, your favourite stories and your favourite beverages. Our eight-day Rail Trip through the country’s central and southern heartlands is not short on incredible culinary experiences. We’ll welcome you to Madrid with a stunning three-course meal at a local restaurant, before spending day two exploring the capital’s finest establishments on a tapas tour of the city. You’ll be treated to another tapas trail in Seville, one of the very best food cities in all of Spain, as we explore the tastiest dishes in Triana, one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods. The tour ends in the coastal city of Malaga, so be sure to order some freshly caught seafood delights during our farewell dinner at an authentic local restaurant.

Seductive Southern Italy
Italy usually ends up at the top of polls on people’s favourite cuisines, with good reason. Any trip to this gorgeous Mediterranean nation is bound to be filled with foodie experiences, and our 10-day tour of the west and east coast is no different. Expect great coffee, gelato and minimalistic pasta dishes throughout your time with us, but it’s hard to top our starting destination when it comes to taste. Said starting point is Naples, the home of pizza, so you can expect the finest slice of your life as we embark on a street food tour of the city, which also includes a variety of incredible sweet pastries, like sfogliatelle. You’ll also get to visit a rural Puglian olive farm, where you’ll get to sample freshly made olive oil, renowned the world over for its quality.

Complete Portugal by Train
Portugal is one of the best seafood destinations on the planet, but the defining feature of Portuguese culinary culture is surely its sweet tooth. The towns and cities of this country are lined with incredible patisserie shop-windows stacked with dozens upon dozens of delicately designed pastries and cakes. The nation’s most famous export, the pastel de nata, is sure to feature on a daily basis on any foodie’s trip to Portugal, and you’ll get to sample some of the finest in the country on a Lisbon delicacies tour, which also includes cod fritters and Ginginha berry liqueur. An underrated sweet treat is the ovos moles from Aveiro, a sugary egg concoction wrapped in wafers and sold all over the pretty lagoon city, which you’ll also visit on this eight-day Rail Trip. Wine connoisseurs will also be in their element, both in the Port wine cellars of Porto and at a local winery in the heart of the Douro Valley.

Spectacular Sicily
Yes, that’s right, we’re doubling down on Italy. This island at the foot of the country’s boot is worthy of a mention of its own, though, and our eight-day Sicily trip is jam-packed with unforgettable culinary experiences. This kicks off in Palermo, with a street food tour and a traditional Sicilian cooking class. While exploring the Madonie Mountain we’ll stop off in scenic Castelbuono for lunch and a wine tasting and, after hiking across Mount Etna, we’ll stop for lunch at a local farm that takes advantage of the volcano’s fertile grounds. You can opt to join another cooking class in Taormina, while another guided food tour awaits in Syracuse and adjoining Ortigia. The final highlights of the itinerary are the stunning baroque towns of Val di Noto. We’ll visit Ragusa, Noto – famed for having some of the world’s greatest gelato – and Modica, which has a rich history in fine chocolate production.
